Free Falling Eleven Lose Again

The Cold Bay Eleven could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Gary Varley into a win. Instead, the Homer Wallbangers prevailed, 4-3. Varley threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Oliver Hernández, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. César Sepúlveda earned his 15th save, after closing out the game.
Had Harry Simpson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Simpson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Wallbangers.
"This game will humble you at times and you've got to buck up and deal with it," said Cold Bay manager John Robertson.
The victory gives Homer a record of 37-22.
