Grunts Knock Off Gunslingers at Ballpark of Dawson City
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Fairbanks Grunts and Dawson City Gunslingers.
Fairbanks picked up a win at Ballpark of Dawson City, bumping off the Dawson City Gunslingers, 5-3. Pitcher Masato Sato was a major reason the Grunts emerged victorious. In 7 innings, Sato surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Hidemichi Kawamura closed the door for Fairbanks, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Fairbanks used a well-timed hit by Takeo Kiyomizu to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Grunts ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I had a good game plan," said Sato. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Kevin Gibbs said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
Fairbanks is now 15-16. Dawson City is 23-8.
