Homer Gets 9-7 Win Versus Akutan Island in 11
|
The Homer Wallbangers took Suezo Okada's best shot and still were able to collect a win at Enfield Grounds. The final score had Homer getting past the Eagles, 9-7, in 11 innings. Okada over 6.1 innings allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 7. The win was credited to 19-year old right-handed pitcher Obiniana Lindo in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Adam Belt took the loss. The Eagles, now 7-14, continue their inauspicious start.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Bob Hardy came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Akutan Island pitcher Adam Belt, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Homer on top, 8-7.
"It was terrific getting this win," Hardy said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
