Bayou Brief: Morimoto sighted at Kawaguchi Facility

Morimoto to Kawaguchi?

by Scott Plack

Rumors are flying out of New Orleans that they may soon jump into trading with a team from the LRS. Jack Cobb tweeted out “Hey everybody else is doing it. Why not Zoidberg?” in response to to a unofficial tweet from the PEBA Rumor Mill linking the Trendsetters to the soon to be absorbed Japanese league. Many pundits have decided that Morimoto’s outburst has led the front office to give serious consideration to cutting ties with the PEBA  home run king. After all, if you call your general manager an idiot, you have to expect some kind of reprisal.

The official line regarding Morimoto from the organization is “No Comment”. But what is Tanner really doing here? Perhaps he is taking a page from José Mourinho’s book and is using media comments to add another layer of motivation to jolt the slugger into a higher level of production. After all, not even Morimoto was pleased by his less than stellar batting average at the end of last year. Is Tanner hoping to jumpstart a bit of a friendly competitive passion – or a least a jab to have Morimoto return with a laser focus and return to form? Do players who are stuck on a team unlikely to make the playoffs need something extra to motivate them through the dog days at the end of summer?

Well, as they say, where there is smoke there is fire. Reports are coming in from Japan that Morimoto was sighted entering Kawaguchi’s training facilities earlier today. While Kawaguchi seems like an unlikely destination, you can’t discount that Matt Higgins has knack for making unlikely deals. Of course Kawaguchi is destined for the Dixie so this could be a case of sweet revenge for Morimoto…if it is a case at all. Right now nothing but speculation can be said about any roster moves involving Morimoto.
