The Duluth front office has announced it will hold a pre-game ceremony to retire the green-and-white number 1, most famously worn for 14 seasons by former catcher Pat Holman. The ceremony will be held a hour before gametime on Opening Day. Festivities are expected include appearances from other former Warriors such as current Madison hitting coach Ron Elmore, Stan Gill, and Miguel Cortez.

Very few have worn the tools of ignorance as well as the Holman. He played from the team’s inception in 2007 through the 2020 season and finished his career with 1702 hits, the most ever in PEBA history by a catcher. The native of Colchester, VT also slugged an even 200 homers in 1644 games. Holman was a four-time PEBA All-Star from 2008-2011 and won the All-Leather Award in his rookie season at the age of 19. His best year was 2010, when he hit .333 with 31 homers and 104 RBI and 7.4 WAR – still one of the greatest seasons for a backstop in PEBA history.

“This is quite an honor, to be the first number retired by the team,” said Holman when notified that his number would be retired. “I saw a lot of things in my time in Duluth – the 60-win teams, the Warriors as division champions, a teammate a couple hits short of a triple crown. Great memories. Most of all, I’ll never forget the people I people I played alongside in the Warrior dugout. I’m humbled and blessed.”
