The Guadalajara Chivas Rayadas reigned over the Zapopan Torrenas in damp conditions.
The Guadalajara Chivas Rayadas had to overcome a fine effort from Zapopan pitcher Sergio Trevino to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Torrenas Ballpark. Trevino went 8 innings and allowed no runs. The winner was Guadalajara reliever Jesús Pedilla, now 2-3. The loser was Ramón Pérez. Ángel Rodríguez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 17 save opportunities.
Guadalajara used the timely hitting of Paco Mata to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Chivas Rayadas on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Mata.
Guadalajara goes to 43-33, Zapopan to 48-28.
