Zephyrs Sink Borealis, 5-2
|
The Reno Zephyrs got a strong performance from pitcher Toby Ayers, who stymied the Aurora offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Washoe Field. Ayers got the win, improving to 4-5. He allowed 10 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Ayers allowed 2 runs. Rudy Howard earned the save, his 4th, for the Zephyrs.
The Zephyrs got a big at-bat from first baseman Jonathan Hill. For the game, Hill went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Reno a 5-2 lead.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Hill told the Reno Gazette.
The second-place Zephyrs improved to 31-22.
