Kaisers Lose Again, 4-1, to Evangelists
|
Notre Dame starter Jason Ayers put a stranglehold on the St. John's offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Evangelists to a 4-1 win. Ayers, now 1-4, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 0, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The losing skid has reached 8 games for St. John's.
In the top of the fifth, Notre Dame first baseman Duane Carter had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Carter stroked a bases-clearing double to right. It made the score 3-0, Notre Dame. For the game, he was 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We're in a funk right now," said St. John's skipper Álex Díaz.
