Knopp Lifts Farstriders to 8-1 Triumph
|
The Florida Farstriders beat the San Antonio Calzones of Laredo, 8-1, at Streets Casino and Holdings Park at Jacksonville. The Farstriders got a fine performance from center fielder Gordon Knopp, who went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Miguel Boroa got the win, improving to 6-0. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 10 and walking 2. The Farstriders improved to a lofty 27-7.
There was more than one reason the Farstriders beat the Calzones of Laredo, but Knopp's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-0 lead when he hit a 3-run home run.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Knopp. "But I like how we're playing right now."
