Home Field Advantage: Sawyer, Mexicali Open NAFTA Trophy with Win
The Mexicali Shmoes started the NAFTA Trophy in style today, downing the visiting Utrecht Scholars at Shmoes Stadium by a score of 6-4 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Shmoes designated hitter Dave Sawyer was 2-4 with 2 home runs.

The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Sawyer delivered big-time for Mexicali, stroking a dramatic solo home run off Paco Chávez. The game-changing hit put the Shmoes on top, 5-4.

"We're one win closer to our goal," Sawyer said in postgame remarks.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shmoes Stadium in Mexicali.
