Crooners Clip Scholars 5-4 in R2 Contest
|
The Hoboken Crooners went deep into extra innings at Utrecht Park today, slipping away with a hard-fought 5-4 win to tie the Divisional.
Hoboken took the 17-inning marathon behind the work of starting pitcher John Wilkins. Wilkins threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball to aid the Hoboken cause. The clubs are now even at 1-1 in their best-of-7 series.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Inácio Bacelar came to bat in the top of the 17th. Facing Utrecht pitcher Armando Velásquez, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hoboken on top, 5-4.
"We found a way to get it done," Wilkins said.
The next game is set to be played for Sunday, September 18th , 2039 at The Hoboken Lounge in Hoboken.
