Road Win Lifts Hoboken to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
The Hoboken Crooners faced a tough opponent in Govan Shipbuilders pitcher Pepe Sánchez, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Wild Card, which they now lead 1-0. The Crooners won 4-1 at Riverside Park, despite the Shipbuilders getting a strong start from right-hander Sánchez, who went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run.
Hoboken used a timely hit from Inácio Bacelar to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Crooners ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Every team in baseball loses," Shipbuilders manager Chris Long said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Riverside Park in Glasgow.
