Zephyrs Lose at Home, 7-3, to Bakersfield
|
The Bakersfield Bears knocked off the Reno Zephyrs, 7-3, at Washoe Field. José Cruz hit 2 singles and 2 doubles, while driving in 1 runs. Jeffrey Mendoza, the winning pitcher, improved to 8-10. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Júlio Navarro earned the save, his 3rd, for the Bears.
Kent Roberson was 1 for 3 with a walk for Bakersfield. In a tie game with one out in the top of the seventh, Roberson came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Bears in front, 4-3.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Roberson told a Bakersfield Daily reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
With the win, the Bears improved to 44-61.
