The Edmonton Mall Ratz topped the Laval Islanders, 4-3, in Pacific Alliance action at Mall Ratz Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Edmonton pitcher and Nago, Japan, native Shojiro Abukara. Brad Flynn finished to wrap up his 19th save. The first-place Mall Ratz lifted their record to 69-52.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Shinsui Sato came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Laval pitcher José Gómez, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Edmonton on top, 4-3.

"We all want to win," said Abukara. "We all want to do our part."
