Bankers Defeat Olympians, 5-4
|
The National City Bankers topped the Nagano Olympians, 5-4, in Baja Cali League action at Bankers Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to National City pitcher and Batan, Costa Rica, native José Balderas. Rafael García was credited with the save, his 8th in 12 tries. After today's action, National City sits at 39-62, while Nagano falls to 27-73.
Had Hisashi Takeuchi not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Takeuchi hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Bankers.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Balderas said.
