From the Shin Seiki Post

Editor’s Note: The Evas’ front office, for the record, claims that today's press conference was scheduled by mistake and denies the authenticity of the art in question.  However, the SS Post has confirmed, through multiple independent sources, both the details of the situation and the artwork in question.

Today was not a good start for the new front office of the Evas.  Barely a week after gaining control of the team via an aggressive bidding strategy, the new (and still anonymous) ownership has been humiliated, leaving many to wonder about its competence.

Today, at a 10:00 AM scheduled press conference, the Evas were to unveil their highly secretive new logo design by German artist (and apparent unrepentant Nazi) Hans Von Ribbentop.  So secret was the design that not even the front office itself had seen the actual art prior to today.  When they did, all Hell broke loose.  The scheduled press conference was hastily cancelled and several heads have already rolled, with more to come.

Ando Ōshima, the newly appointed VP of Business Operations, seems to be the man to blame.  Inside sources report that the 47-year-old Ōshima blindly relied on the recommendation of his great uncle and current Ōshima family patriarch, 97 year old Kenji Ōshima.  Kenji and Hans Von Ribbentop have a very old friendship, going all the way back to WWII.  They are the younger brothers of General Hiroshi Ōshima and convicted Nazi war criminal Joachim Von Ribbentrop, diplomats for Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany respectively during WWII.  They met through them and have been friends ever since.

When contacted, Ribbentrop was willing to comment.

Shin Seiki Post:
“What were your thoughts when you were approached to do the new logo for the Evas?”

Ribbentrop: “I was touched.  Old men like me rarely get looked at with anything but disgust.  To be looked to by the son of an old friend in such a way warmed my heart.  To be able to help glorify the Reich in this day and age, with what remains of my skill, was an honor.  The fact that young Ando would name his team after my old SS intramural football team from 1941 was a real surprise.  I haven’t heard anyone reference the SS or our muse, Frau Eva Braun, with such reverence in 60 years.”

Shin Seiki Post: “You do realize that the team is not actually named after either the SS or Eva Braun, right?  It is named after the mecha from the famous anime series Neon Genesis: Evangelion.”

Ribbentrop: “You used at least three nonexistent words in that last sentence.  I have no idea what you are saying.  Are you mocking me?  I will not be abused by the likes of you, half-breed.  This conversation is over.  Good day and Heil Hitler.”

Let’s hope, for the sake of Shin Seiki’s fans, that the Evas’ front office scouts its players and personnel better than it does its artists and executives.

West Virginia Nailed it!!!

Today the West Virginia Alleghenies decided to revamp some of their coaches in the minor leagues.  That included firing pitching Jorge Aguilar from Maine (AA) and then promoting both David Sánchez and Akio Sai.  Doing that left an opening for a new pitching coach in Aruba (R).  While some thought that the team would go […]
