Scattershooting II…

9/1/2013: Tokyo, Japan  Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to Héctor Rodríguez

Crunch a Bunch: 3B Nobuhito Hasegawa has five 4-hit games this season and six 3-hit games.  That accounts for one third of his hit total this year.  He has never hit below .300 to finish a season and has made the All-Star squad every year since – and including – his rookie year.

Ortíz is on fireHot Tamale: Enrique Ortíz was awarded the SSG’s August Batter of the Month award, his second in a row.

“I’ve been around the League of the Rising Sun long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency,” the 31-year-old Ortíz told reporters.  “I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it’s always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month.”

In 24 games, Ortíz hit .347 with nine home runs, 23 RBI and 19 runs scored for August.  Over the last two months, he has hit .362.

Neo-Tokyo wants Pepe Rico backNuthin’ Doin’: Starting pitcher Hirotada Suzuki strung together an incredible month of July, going 4-0 in five starts and not giving up a single earned run over 35.1 innings.  All told, he threw 45 consecutive scoreless innings and leads the league in ERA.

Come one, come all: Attendance at Neo-Tokyo Grounds is up 17.3% over last season’s record crowds.  With a month and a half left in the regular season and 20 home games yet to be played, revenue has already exceeded last year by $1.5 million.

If you can’t sign ’em, join ’em: Due to receiving a compensation pick, the Akira join Kawaguchi and Fushigi Yugi with multiple first round picks in next year’s draft.

Saving the Best for Last: Neo-Tokyo has indicated that talks for an extension with closer Pepe Rico are ongoing.  Rico is tied for the league lead in saves with 24 and is #6 on the LRS all-time saves list with 127.
