The “Dawg Pack” in Ellison Field at Dole Park has reason to celebrate today because “The Doberman” is staying in town. After being released into free agency Closer Ramón Contreras signed a 3-year deal worth $53,580,000.

Some question at 31 years old if he still will have the same bark on the ball as he had last 5 years as the Sandgnats closer. After a disappointing 2022 season following a career year in 2021 of 43 saves, Contreras rebounded last season improving his statistics. Not striking guys out like he used to, Contreras still found a way to keep opposing players off base last season.

“I’m just happy to call Crystal Lake home for another 3 years. The fans are great and have supported me every step of the way.” said Contreras

Rumor was a few weeks ago that this deal might go through as the Sandgnats clubhouse was seen stocking “Dawg Pack” t-shirts and foam Doberman heads for the upcoming season.

Calls to the Sandgnats clubhouse for comment went unanswered today as rumors have swirled concerning leadership at the front office. A Christmas Press Conference was announced today. Rumor has it there might be a shake up at General Manager.
