Flying Fish Hughes Raps 3 Homers
Monday, September 15th , 2042
Bridgetown Flying Fish third baseman Artie Hughes sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Santo Domingo Decepticons, Hughes told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Hughes pushed the Flying Fish past the Decepticons, 8-5. To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Hughes told reporters after the game.
Artie Hughes hit a two-run home run off Larry Neal in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Masafumi Samurakami in the 4th, was hit by a pitch in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Alex Thompson in the 9th.
For the season, Hughes is hitting at a .262 clip with 27 home runs, 57 RBIs and has scored 47 runs. He has 69 hits, 43 walks and a .377 on-base percentage.
