Fernández Slams 3 Homers for Batey Thursday, August 14th , 2042 Charlotte Amalie catcher Jaime Fernández saw a fantastic day go to waste at Batey Ballpark as the Batey lost, 5-4, despite a trio of home runs from the youngster. "It seems kinda odd, you know?" a somewhat dejected Fernández said after his club's defeat. "I mean, hitting three home runs in one game should be enough to win a game, right? I guess that's why they call it a team sport. Tomorrow I might strike out four times and other guys pick me up and we win. It takes more than one guy to get a win." The 20-year-old tallied three homers in a 3-for-4 day, and added 4 RBIs and 3 scored. "That guy really had a game, didn't he?" said Santo Domingo manager Pat Plummer. "Luckily we were able to shut down the rest of the team. We are feeling good about getting out of here with the win." Jaime Fernández hit a solo-shot off Larry Neal in the 2nd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Clarence O'Brien in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Lúcio Young in the 9th. Fernández is batting .259 this year with 16 home runs, 28 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has 38 hits in 147 at-bats. |
