Sakurai Honored by Pacific Conference
Monday, March 17th , 2042
No single hit brought Shigekazu Sakurai Player of the Week honors -- the Kochi HS Shogun right fielder corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat.
"Hitting is all about discipline," said Sakurai. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too aggressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes."
Concentrate he did. Sakurai stroked 10 hits in 23 at-bats while cranking out 6 home runs, 7 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
Sakurai currently has a .448 batting average with 26 hits, 13 homers, 17 RBIs, 17 runs scored and a .484 OBP.
