5-for-7 Day for Iwasaki
Thursday, April 18th , 2041
After a 5-hit effort to lead Matanzas HS's 6-5 victory over the Collegio San Carlo Kings, first baseman Hidekazu Iwasaki told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the International High School Athletic Association-level is really something special."
The 18-year-old player earned his accolades at Matanzas Field with a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Kings.
"His swing is getting there," said El Poeta skipper Travis Cruz, who spoke glowingly of Iwasaki after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Hidekazu did that to perfection."
Hidekazu Iwasaki doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, struck out in the 9th, doubled in the 11th and hit a three-run home run off Lodovico Giardina in the 12th.
For the season, Iwasaki has hit .306 with 10 home runs and 20 RBIs. He has played in 44 games and scored 18 times.
