Padres Cruise to Round 2 with Sweep
Friday, May 9th , 2042
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Atlantic League Round 1. It turned out quite a bit different.
The Pontificia Universidad Padres swept aside the Chatham-Kent Canada Black Bears to advance to the Round 2, winning the final game by a 4-3 score at Pointers Ballpark.
The series MVP was left fielder António Maldonado, who hit .438 with a .526 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 4 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
The Pontificia Universidad Padres will play against the ETH Zurich Physicists in the next round. ETH Zurich won their series against the Cambridge Light Blues 4 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
