6-Hit Barrage by Montoya
Sunday, April 21st , 2041
6 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 6 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. José Montoya got his name recorded today, but the Delft Engineers picked up the win at Matto College Grounds, topping the Atletico Castille Sociedad Deportiva Leones, 8-7.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Paco Cuellar. "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Montoya, who is tied for 6th in the AL in hits with 50, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the left fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
José Montoya singled in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, doubled in the 9th, singled in the 11th and flied out in the 13th.
This season, Montoya is batting .286 with 19 RBIs, 18 runs scored and 6 home runs.
