Johnson Shows Off, Hits for Cycle
Thursday, April 3rd , 2042
Joe Johnson was jubilant as the Lodi HS Devils left the field with a win, 10-0, over the Lakewood HS Lancers. He had every right to be.
The 18-year-old second baseman hit for the cycle at Lancers Ballpark, had a 4-for-5 game and added 4 RBI and 2 runs to boot.
"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Johnson said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."
Lodi HS manager Will Holt was "proud" of the second baseman's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.
"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," the skipper said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."
Joe Johnson singled in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off William Hart in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.
For the year, Johnson has hit at a .296 clip with 20 RBIs, 4 home runs and 15 runs scored.
