Velásquez Holds Edmonton Hitless
Sunday, July 6th , 2042
In a dominant outing, Héctor Velásquez of the Hamilton Industrialists totally silenced the bats of the Edmonton Mall Ratz, finishing with a no-hitter.
In the 18-0 victory, Velásquez faced only 31 batters, surrendered no hits, had 9 strikeouts and 5 walks.
"Honestly, I didn't even know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning," Hamilton manager Robert Davis said. "I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had gotten, and I happened to notice that they hadn't gotten any."
Commenting on the defeat, losing manager Ramón Arroyo had a "pretty simple" analysis of the game.
"The Industrialists had all the hits and all the runs, so they won," he snapped. "But yeah, Velásquez pitched a heck of a ballgame."
This season, Velásquez has nailed down 2 saves with 75 strikeouts in 77.2 innings. He is credited with 4 wins and 3 losses and has a 2.09 earned run average.
