3-HR Day for Batterham
Thursday, July 3rd , 2042
Edmonton Mall Ratz catcher Samuel Batterham put on a dazzling display of power at Medicine Hat Municipal Stadium against the Medicine Hat Drillers. In the 13-3 Mall Ratz victory, Batterham penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Medicine Hat manager Michael Burton said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 28-year-old had 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Batterham said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Samuel Batterham hit a three-run home run off Ira Schumacher in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Kumanosuke Yamada in the 2nd, was hit by a pitch in the 4th, walked in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Sandro Cuevas in the 8th.
So far this season, Batterham is batting .211 with 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored. He has 4 hits in 19 at-bats, 4 walks and a .375 OBP. Batterham has played in 8 games.
