The timely hitting of Sergio Rivera helped the Ciudad Juarez Velas down the Guadalajara Chivas Rayadas, 3-1. Rivera was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Velas. Manny Ríos earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. Félix Concepción earned save number 2 this season.
Ciudad Juarez took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Rivera hit a run-scoring double. His 16th double of the season made the score 2-1, Ciudad Juarez.
"This is a very good team," said Rivera. "We have the chance to do something special."
The third-place Velas improved to 30-20.
