Zephyrs Reel In 9-6 Win
|
A 5-RBI performance from Don Washington, who won the Wunderkind Award in 2039, helped the Reno Zephyrs beat the Palm Springs Codgers, 9-6. Reno reliever Ryosei Kichida got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Shigochiyo Yamaguchi was tagged with the loss. Reno sits in 4th place in the Sovereign League Desert Hills at 67-69.
Washington contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Reno in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 6-4, Washington took a fastball from Shigochiyo Yamaguchi and stroked the home run to right-center. His 17th home run of the season allowed the Zephyrs to leap in front, 7-6.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Washington. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
