Thoroughbreds Drop Hitmen, 3-0
|
The Kentucky Thoroughbreds picked up a win at Raceway Park, topping the New Jersey Hitmen, 3-0. On the mound for Kentucky was right-hander Nelson Alvarado. He played a principal role in the triumph. Alvarado, now 10-6, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Mike Travis finished to wrap up his 26th save.
The Thoroughbreds got a big hit from first baseman Ramón Francisco. Facing New Jersey pitcher Shojiro Goto in the bottom of the sixth, Francisco pounded a run-scoring double to left. His 29th double of the season put the Thoroughbreds ahead, 1-0.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Alvarado.
Kentucky is now 64-72, New Jersey 50-85.
