de Weerd Goes Wild, But Black Bears Win
Ballpark of Sakado College was the site of the home opener for the Delft Engineers. The contest featured a prime matchup between Tom Lecain of the visiting Chatham-Kent Canada Black Bears and Brian Stuut of the Engineers. The final score was 9-7, the Black Bears getting the win. Gart de Weerd turned in the best performance. The save went to Kirk Duffy, his 1st this season.

Max Wellman had a big 2-run double for the Black Bears in the top of the third inning. With Chatham-Kent Canada leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Brian Stuut and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Black Bears ahead, 4-0.

"I still think this team can play even better," Wellman told the Chatham-Kent Canada Citizen.
