Waseda Bear starter Robun Matsumoto found his groove in his team's 4-1 win over the Rikkyo University Bishops. Matsumoto, now 2-3, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Tsunayoshi Saito finished the game for Waseda and earned his 6th save.

The Bishops had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Bear going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 18-year old left fielder Tekkan Matsumoto came to the plate. Matsumoto hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Rikkyo University hurler Shusaku Kiyomizu. It was Matsumoto's 9th home run of the year.

Waseda manager Shunsen Yoshioka praised his team's "energy."

With the win, Waseda has a record of 10-24. Rikkyo University falls to 17-17.
