The timely hitting of Mauro Mata helped the Florida Farstriders down the San Antonio Calzones of Laredo, 9-6. Mata was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Farstriders. The winner was Bob Brewster, who threw 94 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits. León Zamora notched his 17th save of the season.
Florida right fielder Jiro Murase contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a curveball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 8th hit of the season and put the Farstriders ahead, 3-0.
"Very good win for our guys," said Murase.
With the win, Florida goes to 43-14, while the Calzones of Laredo fall to 34-24.
