Mansfield Torches Wallabies for 5 Hits
|
There was no storybook ending. Carlos Mansfield of the Curtin University Cockatoos socked it to the visiting University of Sydney Wallabies with a terrific 5-hit game, but his team didn't get the win. The Cockatoos fell, 6-4, at Cockatoo Cricket Grounds.
"I don't want to sound ungrateful, but something is missing here," Mansfield complained following the loss. "When you have a great game you should win the game, too."
He definitely had an unforgettable day in the batter's box, ripping out 5 hits in 5 at-bats. Curtin University manager Masujiro Takahashi sympathized with his first baseman, telling BNN reporters after the game that "Carlos played a whale of a game, but sometimes individual brilliance is not enough."
Carlos Mansfield hit a two-run home run off Declan Wilson in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
Looking at his stats this year, Mansfield has compiled a .330 batting average, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 6 runs. He has played in 24 games and scored 10 runs.
