Calzones of Laredo Get Past Charleston for 3-2 Win
|
Elysian Fields was host to some intense drama.
The San Antonio Calzones of Laredo had to overcome a good performance from Charleston pitcher Glenn Taylor to claim a 3-2 win at Elysian Fields. Taylor went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Juan Vargas snagged the win in relief. He goes to 9-9 on the season. Peter Phillips suffered the loss.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 23-year old catcher Moromao Yokoyama had a real shot to win the game. Charleston pitcher Peter Phillips was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Yokoyama hit a run-scoring single. The Calzones of Laredo had a walk-off triumph.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Charleston manager Luis Salars, "let me know."
At 71-61, the Calzones of Laredo are currently third in the Imperial League Dixie.
