Portland Rallies for 5-3 Victory
|
Despite a fine performance by third baseman Kanai Aliimalu, the Long Beach Oilers lost to the Portland Chinook, 5-3. Aliimalu was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Kevin Willis was the winner in relief. His record is now 5-1. The losing pitcher was Ben McLaughlin. The save went to Joe Hawkins, number 12 for him.
Portland used the timely hitting of Nick Nichols to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chinook on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were the better team," crowed Nichols.
Portland has 3 straight wins, Long Beach 3 straight losses.
