Tacoma Loggers starter Pat Willis worked his magic, to help his team defeat the Portland Chinook, 2-1. Willis, now 6-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Bill Frederick earned the save for Tacoma, his 17th of the year.
Akira Kiyomizu had a direct impact on the outcome. Kiyomizu contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Tacoma up, 2-1.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Kiyomizu.
Tacoma, at 34-14, is cruising.
