The Brampton Camels downed the Lodoss Spell Swords, 3-2, at Forcelia Field. The Camels were led by Andrew Thompson. Thompson went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. David Peña, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Spell Swords to 2 runs on 4 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The save went to Ramón Velásquez, his 6th this season.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Ed Gates came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Lodoss pitcher Dave Jackson, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Brampton on top, 3-2.

"I always try to stay as positive and as mentally strong as possible because I know how crazy this game can be," said Gates.

The first-place Camels go to 45-31.
