Medicine Hat starter Ira Schumacher put a stranglehold on the Laval offense. The left-hander had complete command of his curveball in leading the Drillers to a 3-1 win. Schumacher, now 2-6, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Yes, it was a win for Medicine Hat; but their 21-40 mark is nothing to crow about.

Éric Flament had a direct impact on the outcome. Flament contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Medicine Hat up, 3-1.

"Ira's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Medicine Hat manager Michael Burton.
