Oilers Claw Out 2-1 Win

The Long Beach Oilers did just enough to sneak past the Portland Chinook, 2-1, at Kauffman Stadium. Long Beach pitcher Carlos Sánchez, in particular, had a standout performance. Senzo Matsuo picked up his 9th save of the season. With the win, Long Beach has a record of 14-20. Portland falls to 18-16.
Karst van Vugt, who is tied for 9th in the HUM in triples with 1, had a direct impact on the outcome. van Vugt contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Long Beach up, 2-0.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Oilers manager Gerardo Vargas.
