Torres Hits 2 home runs in Starbursts Win
|
The Villanova Starbursts defeated the Penn State Pride, 10-4, at Penn State Grounds. Villanova was led by 19-year old left fielder James Torres, who was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs, a triple, and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. Getting the save was Gene Steele, his 3rd. Villanova has a record of 34-18, placing them first in the Eastern Seaboard Conference.
Lonnie Smith had a big 2-run double for the Starbursts in the top of the fourth inning. With Villanova leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Samuel MacColl and swatted a double to left. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Starbursts ahead, 4-0.
"It's fun to come to the yard every day when you're winning," said Villanova manager Bill Hill.
