Old Queens Score Late to Upend Scarlet Brutes, 4-3
|
Starting pitcher Gilberto Mata pitched well enough to help the Rutgers Old Queens beat the Ohio State Scarlet Brutes, 4-3. Rutgers reliever Alberto Icaza picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Jeff Long took the loss. With the win over Ohio State, the Old Queens improved to 22-29.
Luis Gonzáles was the walk-off hero for Rutgers. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Old Queens center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"When you have a good rhythm and good flow, it's nice to just go out there and pound the strike zone with confidence," said Mata.
