The UAB Dragons defeated the Northwestern Purple Haze, 6-2, in United States Collegiate Baseball Association action at Purple Haze Ballpark. UAB pitcher Cliff Howard had a standout performance. Northwestern, at 25-24, has lost 4 straight.

Russ Latham came through with a big-time hit for UAB. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"It's still just a game," said Latham, "whether you win or lose."
