Red Dawns Drop Old Queens, 3-0
|
In a well-pitched game between the Michigan Red Dawns and the Rutgers Old Queens, pitcher Robert Simpson was fantastic. The Michigan right-hander helped his team secure the win, 3-0. The winning pitcher was Simpson, now 1-4. He tossed 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. The save went to Denny Jones, his 12th this season.
The Old Queens had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Red Dawns going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old first baseman Freddie Johnson came to the plate. Johnson hit a bases-clearing triple on a 2-2 changeup from Rutgers hurler Dean Hooper. It was Johnson's 2nd triple of the year.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Johnson.
With the win, the Red Dawns have a record of 27-23.
