Floundering Chiefs Lose 8th Straight
|
The Rice Puddings took Illinois pitcher Pedro León's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Puddings Ballpark. The final score had Rice getting past the Chiefs, 3-2. León went 5 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 4. Sean Palmer, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. Illinois now owns a losing streak of 8 games.
Rice got a clutch hit from Randy West. The center fielder socked a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was game-ender.
West called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
