Joe Matthews, who is tied for 4th in the USCBA COL with a 0.85 WHIP, imposed his will on the Dambusters from the get-go. Relying mainly on his forkball, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-0 Purdue triumph. The winning pitcher was Matthews, now 5-4. He tossed 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. Lee Edwards locked down his 1st save.

Purdue designated hitter George Ortíz contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 29th hit of the season and put the Astronauts ahead, 5-0.

Purdue manager Ramón Rodríguez praised his team's "businesslike approach."

At 24-24, the Astronauts find themselves in 7th place in the Perfect 10 Conference.
