The UCLA Chili Peppers rode a solid performance from 20-year-old starting pitcher Preston Townsend to a win, beating the Houston Shastas, 3-2, at Chili Peppers Ballpark. The first-place Chili Peppers are now 36-9, the Shastas 34-11.

Andy Warren, who is tied for 7th in the USCBA COL with a .704 slugging percentage, took Houston hurler Bill Glenn deep in the bottom of the eighth. His solo home run put the Chili Peppers on top, 3-2. In all, Warren had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Yosuke Nakagawa.
