Sherpas Stick High Fives with 1-0 Loss
|
The West Virginia Sherpas downed the Louisville High Fives, 1-0, at Sherpas Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Quincy Griffin had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 7th in the USCBA COL in innings pitched with 56.2, handcuffed his opponent all game. Griffin yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-4. Blaine Jenkins collected save number 9.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Sherpas had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when catcher Luis Santístevan hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Marlon Orr and made the score 1-0, Sherpas. Santístevan went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Griffin told the West Virginia Herald.
The win makes West Virginia 16-28.
