Scarlet Brutes Popped by Chiefs, 10-1
|
The Illinois Chiefs trumped the Ohio State Scarlet Brutes, 10-1, at Ballpark of Ohio State. Illinois shortstop Pete Cook was terrific. He went 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Shane Posey, the winning pitcher, is now 1-4. He went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 1. At 12-29, the Chiefs claim last place in the Perfect 10 Conference.
In the top of the third, Cook had a 3-run home run for Illinois. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Chiefs on top, 3-0.
"We can't expect to win," said Ohio State manager Randolph Snow, "with that kind of performance."
