The Marshall McConaugheys had to overcome a good performance from UAB pitcher Roger Boswell to claim a 3-1 win at Alabama-Birmingham Grounds. Boswell went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner in relief was Chris Welsh. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0. Ed Nelson earned the save for Marshall, his 8th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Marshall, had it not been for Víctor Morales, the 20-year old catcher . Morales contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put Marshall up, 2-0.
"We busted our tails," said UAB manager Randy Anderson. "But we came up short."
At 23-17, the McConaugheys claim third place in the American Heartland Conference.
